Reaction to the three Innu communities’ public statement – 12 May 2021
Since its inception in 2018, the Gazoduq project has been developing itself based on strong values and on a constructive dialogue with local and indigenous communities. From this perspective, the three Innu communities’ public statement is a surprise, particularly considering the quality of the discussions since the beginning of the project and the initial collaboration agreement agreed upon with Mamo Aki Limited Partnership, a group of eight First Nations whose territory is on the proposed route of our project and of which they are members. We acknowledge their press release, and we will take the time to fully understand the position expressed by the band councils in order to maintain the current constructive dialogue and to find mutually satisfactory solutions.
The Gazoduq project and its entire team remain sensitive to the specific needs of indigenous groups and maintain their commitment to adopt a consistent and respectful approach throughout the project.
